C.A.P.E.S. is owned and managed by Greg Shaw. Shaw, a wild-life film editor by trade, who has had a lifelong passion for nature and conservation. During his childhood years in Pietermartizburg, Shaw kept birds and learned the fundamentals of aviculture and animal husbandry and, after his schooling, decided to formalize his knowledge of animals and plants. He went on to read a BSc in Zoology and Botany at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he was privileged to study under some of the most respected names in South African ornithology – Professors Perrin and Gordon MacLean, erstwhile co-author of the birding bible, Roberts Birds of Southern Africa. After his university years, Shaw moved on to Cape Town, where he had a career move into wild-life film making.

Shaw spent some years as the Environmental Officer of the Misty Cliffs Village Association, during which time he initiated several successful environmental projects, including the hacking of several species of owl back into the region.

Shaw is ably assisted by Richard Meti. Meti hails from the rural Eastern Cape and takes his job as the custodian of C.A.P.E.S breeding stock very seriously. He is responsible for the well-being of the Stud’s birds.
